Underworld: Evolution, and in fact, the Underworld series as a whole, looks like a something I should like. Vampires, werewolves, chicks kicking much ass, and wintery, gothic visuals kind of imply that the series is right up my alley. I watch the trailers, and they absolutely slay. I scoot around looking at the various stills as they leak out, and they're gorgeous. The movie finally comes out, and... it's dull as a stump.
Thinking about it kind of makes my head hurt. I mean, vampires. Werewolves. Kate Beckinsale in skintight leather. I can't quite wrap my head around how Len Wiseman could take such a tremendously cool concept and bring it to such an extreme level of suck. To his credit, the visuals are stunning. But the story makes zero sense, the dialog is minimal and consisting only of droning exposition, and the action scenes are repetitive and non-sensical (with the exception of a rather spectacular finale, which still made zero sense, but was cool enough that I didn't care). The characters are pretty, but that's about it. Despite that we've now had two full movies centered around them, their personalities are barely a blip on the the film's radar. I don't go to any action movie looking for enlightenment, but I do expect to be entertained, and this movie just didn't do the trick. Save your money, watch some Buffy reruns, and cross your fingers for something better in the third installment.
*weeps* This is soo disappointing. I'm totally in your camp - there's no reason it shouldn't be cool. Hearing that it's just not up to par on any level is really upsetting.
I guess I'm off to Fun with Dick and Jane this weekend.
Well, if you were really dying to see it, think of it this way! Maybe if you go in with low expectations, you'll wind up being pleasantly surprised?
Meh! I'd rather go with good expectations that are met. lol I'll wait for the video. The kid wants to see Nanny McPhee anyway. ;-)
